Travel Requirements: Required travel in Ontario mainly from Ingersoll to Cambridge, Ingersoll to Windsor. Some travel to US.

Daily Schedule/Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm

Position Title: Controls Engineer - Automotive Manufacturing & Engineering

Role Summary

In execution, the team are directly responsible for the equipment from the time it is qualified at the OEM through startup plus 1 year. This includes Controls Engineering activities as well as equipment qualification at the OEM, shipping, install, power-on, debug, issue resolution, documentation and deliverables, and meeting launch metrics. Work will be performed in a plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative are exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.

The Controls Systems Engineer is an individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Control Engineering of the Production Equipment during the "Execution" Phase of the program.
  • Coaching / Mentoring / Training of newer / less experienced team members.
  • Equipment Runoff @ OEM.
  • Plant Equipment Install / Debug / Launch / Continuous Improvement.
  • Actively participate in the SCRUM / Agile Process to accomplish daily tasks and meet the project deliverables.
  • Establishes equipment installation board and review weekly/daily with OEM and contractors.
  • Develop and lead the PPAP review meetings in area of responsibility utilizing the PPAP checklist, capturing exceptions.
  • Develop a proactive safety culture by engaging team members and peers in our safety processes.
  • Understood and effective use of Global Manufacturing System.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to assist production and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment/process failures and with identifying effective follow-up countermeasures.
  • Work with the team to close all ME open issues for Launch Deliverables.
  • Ensure equipment meets operational requirements and appropriate standards.
  • Develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify technical training and knowledge transfer opportunities with other Controls Engineers, Interns, and Maintenance Associates.
  • Attend regular departmental meetings to provide technical insight and to communicate / coordinate planning of activities in assigned area.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • 5 - 7 years of experience in related Automotive domains required.
  • Experience with Automotive common controls systems, PLC, HMI, ethernet networks.
  • Experience with Automotive Safety Control systems.
  • Launch experience with Automotive tooling and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience to implement, install, debug, and test the equipment.
  • Proficient troubleshooting and debugging skills, finding resolution, implementing those resolutions to ensure equipment is running properly and safely.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative, disciplined, strong sense of responsibility to deliver results and meet schedule and commitment.
  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed environment.
  • Effective communication skills and a strong problem solver.
  • Hold a valid driving license.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • GM vehicle experience is a plus.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
