Job Summary

The Industrial Electrician will focus on the troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic control systems, panels and devices. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring machines and equipment are well maintained to facilitate production requirements and machine manufacturer's specifications. This role reports into the Maintenance Manager while working a 42-hour weekly afternoon shift schedule (Mon-Fri; 2:30pm - 11:30pm)

Principle Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, install and test transformers, electrical motors, generators, industrial storage batteries, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
  • Plan and layout work assignments from complex blueprints, sketches or verbal instruction and accomplish these assignments with the maximum efficiency.
  • Capable of inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.
  • Competently and safely use all tools and operate all machinery and equipment necessary for the efficient repair and maintenance of company property.
  • Test electrical equipment and components for continuity, current voltage, and resistance.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs and keep accurate maintenance records.
  • Work with other classifications of employees to perform all necessary activities required to get equipment and machinery back into operation in minimum time.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and conduct of behavior in a safe and orderly manner as per the company polices and safe work practices.
  • Participate in SMP initiatives, conduct routine SMP Preventative Maintenance checks and support 5S program and new Energy Conservation Initiative..
  • Perform a variety of other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Must have current certification of an Ontario Provincial (442A, or 309A) or an Inter-provincial (Red Seal) Trade Qualification as an Electrician.
  • Must have experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
  • Experience working with plastics (PVC) extrusion and/or injection molding is a strong asset
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently under minimal direction and have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have own basic tools
  • Flexible to work on-call if required

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends almost 100% of their time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labor. Lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects (50-100lbs), standing and walking cover the majority of the work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses. Considerable amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and unexpected workflow bring considerable stresses to this position.
