Role

Reporting to the Journeyman Electrician, the role of Electrician Apprentice is to assist with the maintenance, upgrading, and installation of electrical systems within industrial settings. Under this role the Electrician Apprentice will gain hands-on experience within the industrial high voltage sector. The Electrician Apprentice is responsible to assist with the inspections of electrical systems, components and equipment to identify defects and to ensure compliance with codes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation of electrical wiring, conduits, Cable Trays, and fixtures across buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects, while adhering to safety protocols and learning proper techniques.
  • Support the installation of electrical panels, switchgear, control systems, and distribution boards under the guidance of experienced Electricians, gaining exposure to the regulation and distribution of electrical power within facilities and systems.
  • Learn to assist with the installation of electrical equipment such as motors, generators, transformers, and lighting systems as part of construction projects or facility upgrades, while observing and following instructions closely.
  • Aid in the setup of power distribution networks by assisting in tasks such as cable laying, transformer installation, and connection of power sources to distribution points, under the supervision of Journeyman Electricians.
  • Assist in ensuring proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems to prevent electrical hazards and uphold safety standards within industrial environments, while learning about the importance of safety measures.
  • Support Journeyman Electricians in performing routine maintenance tasks, troubleshooting electrical issues, and assisting in the repair of faulty equipment or systems to ensure uninterrupted operation.
  • Learn about relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and assist in ensuring compliance during installations and maintenance activities.
  • Gain knowledge of lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety protocols, under the guidance of experienced Electricians, while actively participating in implementing safety measures in the workplace.
  • Assist in the installation of structural steel and buried utilities, while observing and learning proper techniques for safe operation of construction equipment such as skid steers, mini hoes, manlifts, and zoom booms.
  • Learn from Journeyman Electricians about providing effective leadership, supervision, and mentorship to Electrical Apprentices, while developing skills in understanding and resolving technical issues.
  • Adhere strictly to Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.'s Health and Safety Manual and industry safety regulations, while actively participating in creating a safe working environment for oneself and others.

This opening is for the Marathon Gold Valentine Lake Project starting June 1st and end in November of 2024

Schedule of 14 days on and 7 days off

10-hour days (7:00 am to 5:30pm). Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours in a day as well as after 40 hours in a week.

Travel time to and from site will be paid at base rate, and travel provided by employer from St John's.

This will be a camp based job, all accommodation and food provided.

Starting wages of

1st Year $20.86

2nd Year $25.03

3rd Year $29.20

4th Year $33.38

Requirements

  • Indentured into Electrical or PSE trade
  • Have knowledge of the Electrical Utility Code (E.U.C Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules as they relate to the Electrician role
  • Have a valid Provincial Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office and computer based test equipment would be an asset
  • Must meet pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing requirements
  • Must be able to work comfortably at heights
