At Ambulance New Brunswick, our team consists of talented emergency medical dispatchers, primary and advanced care paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and critical care flight nurses. Health care professionals who respond with their best in some of the most difficult situations imaginable.

As the provincial ambulance service provider, our dispatchers respond to calls from those in medical distress through the 911 system and send help within seconds. Our paramedics take over from there, responding to approximately 130,000 calls per year and transporting patients to hospital by ambulance. And, each year, our specialized air ambulance crew transfers hundreds of the most critically ill and injured patients to specialized medical centres around the Maritimes and beyond.

Duties of Position:

The Clinical Support Paramedic (CSP) provides clinical oversight, guidance and support to Primary Care Paramedics, Advanced Care Paramedics (PCP & ACP) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), ensuring patient safety through Pre-ALRT (Pre-Hospital Alternative Low Risk Triage) protocols, triage assessments, and follow-up care. The CSP also acts as a consultant for patient disposition and supports low-acuity cases during resource delays.

  • Act as a consultant and advisor, ensuring thorough patient assessments and adherence to pre-ALRT protocols for pre-ALRT non-transport activations;
  • Apply triage tools to interfacility transfers and adjust response level accordingly.
  • Assist paramedics with review and application of paramedic and EMT clinical guidelines.
  • Conduct follow-up calls for ongoing clinical status assessment for low-acuity patients where 911 ambulance response is delayed or cancelled.
  • Re-triage certain existing 911 calls and update dispatch determinant based on assessment.
  • Provide clinical support and guidance to the Critical Care Transport Coordinator as needed (i.e. Trauma Transfers, Flight Requests, external carrier requests, etc.) to reassess waiting requests and prioritize high acuity interfacility transfers
  • Collaborate on complaints, incidents and related reviews.
  • Gather, analyze, and report data to inform evolution of protocols, processes, and system processes.
  • Contribute to safety initiatives by promoting a culture focused on patient safety and well-being.
