JOB PURPOSE

This is an advanced practice nursing role in the field of the Emergency Medicine Program. This individual will be required to be a clinical lead utilizing a collaborative nursing model to support the educational needs of the nursing staff within the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, New Brunswick. Additional liaison work may be required to support the Emergency Medicine Program sites including URVH, OPH and UCC.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
  • Certificate in Adult Education is considered an asset.
  • Nurse with current registration in the province of New Brunswick.
  • Minimum of 5 years current Emergency Department experience with demonstrated clinical leadership ability and competence in professional practice.
  • Successful completion of the New Brunswick Critical Care Nursing Program or equivalent.
  • ACLS and BLS certification, and willingness to obtain instructor certification within first year of employment.
  • TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP, CTAS certifications preferred, and a willingness to obtain instructor status.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and the ability to be self-directed.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including maintaining competency in clinical skills by performing regular nursing practice duties at bedside.
  • Proficient with computer skills, i.e., word, excel and power point.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct clinical teaching at the bedside in real-time.
  • Provides in class teaching for adult learners, facilitates education of nursing staff in clinical procedures, new equipment, policies and development of skills necessary for safe patient care.
  • Develop individualized nursing education plans and provide mentorship.
  • Develops and maintains standards and procedures for nursing staff.
  • Acts as a resource and develops the competency of the Emergency Department nursing staff.
  • Develop, plan, co-ordinate, schedule and present nursing courses, seminars and workshops to enhance clinical practice.
  • Assists with the delivery and ongoing evaluation of Emergency Department orientation/mentorship programs; including EPICC education.
  • Promotes and demonstrates effective communication, helps relationships and serves as a mentor to nursing staff
  • Participate in organizational committees, work groups and planning teams as required for the Emergency Department.
  • Provides feedback for Emergency Department nursing education programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains a record of all activities (staff competencies, certifications, remediation plans) and provides a monthly written report to the manager.
  • Instructs Advanced Nursing Competencies, ACLS, BLS/RQI, PALS and CTAS and annual skills review.
  • Participates in the development, revision, implementation and evaluation of clinical standards, policies, procedures and quality initiatives for the Emergency Department.
  • Collaborates with facility educators, managers, resource nurses and directors.
  • Assigned duties at the discretion of the manager.
