Tuhe Nova Scotia Crop and Livestock Insurance Commission provides agricultural entrepreneurs with insurance products enabling them to manage the risk of financial losses caused by crop failures or animal production losses. It administers 16 crop insurance plans, a dairy livestock insurance plan, a poultry insurance plan and also administers a Wildlife Compensation Program. The Commission reports to the Minister of Agriculture and is a key component of the business risk management services that the department offers to the industry under the AgriInsurance platform.

About Our Opportunity


You will work along side experienced professional agrologists and support our team across a varied range of assignments. As your knowledge and experience develops, you will take on work of increasing complexity and responsibility. Your work will be tailored to provide you the experiences needed to work towards the achievement of professional agrologist status.

Primary Accountabilities

As the successful candidate, some of your primary accountabilities will include:

  • Assist with monitoring and inspecting crop fields to evaluate causes of damage and ensure best management practices are being used.
  • Assist with conducting yield verifications and assessments.
  • Assist with adjusting and calculating crop insurance claims.
  • Completing the Articling Agrologist Program under the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists.
Qualifications and Experience

To be the successful candidate, you must be eligible for membership as a Professional Agrologist. You have graduated within the last three years from a bachelor's degree with a major in Agriculture or a related field. You must have a drivers license and your own vehicle.

Additionally, you possess:

  • Knowledge of management practices involved in the growing of crops.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate confident client interactions.
  • You must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in collaboration with the team.
Equivalency

Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent driving to and doing outdoor work in a field setting involving travel on foot over rough terrain and sometimes in remote locations.

Pay Grade: PR 06

Salary Range: $2,200.68 - $2,288.52 Bi-Weekly
