As Foreman – Building Services (Arenas), you'll play a key leadership role in overseeing facility operations, equipment maintenance, staff supervision, and safety compliance across municipal arenas and aquatic facilities. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced operations professional who excels at leading teams, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring facilities are maintained to the highest standards for residents and visitors alike.

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Building Services, the Foreman – Building Services (Arenas) leads the daily operations of an assigned work unit, ensuring municipal arenas are safe, well-maintained, and ready for public use. Key responsibilities include staff scheduling, supervision, quality control, facility and equipment operations, preventative maintenance, contractor coordination, and procurement of supplies and materials.

The Foreman provides leadership through coaching, mentoring, and performance management while fostering a strong culture of safety. This role oversees compliance with health and safety programs, including JHAs and FLHAs, and ensures employees and contractors perform work efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of service excellence.

To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Graduation from University or trade school program.
  • Minimum of five-years related experience.
  • Valid Class 5 NB Driver's license.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a clear Driver's Abstract, are required as conditions of employment.

The following qualifications are not required but may strengthen an application:

  • Knowledge of automated building controls, refrigeration systems, ice equipment, computer operating systems (Microsoft suite) and booking programs (Amelia).
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, identify problems, make/coordinate necessary repairs, of equipment and systems as required.
  • Ability to effectively train, supervise and schedule the work of staff, vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively - both in writing and verbally - with staff, user groups, contractors, vendors, and members of the public.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files for the facility, equipment, and staff.
  • Support management in obtaining corporate goals, initiatives, and efficiencies.

What You'll Do

  • Supervision and operation of municipal arena facilities and all related equipment.
  • Supervision of full-time, temporary and student staff.
  • Plan, schedule, assign and review the work of employee.
  • Coach and mentor staff as required.
  • Train employees in job duties and safety procedures (JHA's, FLHA's).
  • Carry out repairs and adjustments to the facility and equipment to ensure efficient operation.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and ready for all user groups and the general public.
  • Purchase of materials and equipment required for operation.
  • Follow, promote, and ensure all City policies, procedures, and work instructions are followed.
  • Ensure that general users, user groups, vendors, contractors, canteen workers manage and operate in a safe manner and keep the facilities clean and safe.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and other municipal staff as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.
