Port Saint John is seeking a Marine Engineer to join its Infrastructure, Assets and Engineering team. This role leads and supports marine infrastructure projects that enable safe, efficient and sustainable port operations.

The Marine Engineer provides technical and project management expertise for piers, berths, wharves, navigation channels, turning basins, dredging and other marine assets. The position is the Port's technical lead for capital dredging and supports the operational dredging program while collaborating with internal teams, consultants, contractors, regulators and port users.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver marine infrastructure projects from scope development and procurement through construction and close-out.
  • Lead the capital dredging program and support operational dredging, including technical review, permitting, budgets, schedules, risk and stakeholder coordination.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, studies, estimates, tender documents and contractor deliverables.
  • Assess navigation channels, vessel accommodation, under-keel clearance, mooring systems, berth loading and related operational requirements.
  • Support inspections, condition assessments and lifecycle planning for Port-owned marine assets.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors, regulators, terminal operators and other stakeholders while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare project updates, reports, recommendations, funding documentation and organized technical records.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, marine, coastal, ocean, geotechnical or structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Seven to ten years of progressive engineering experience, preferably involving marine or port infrastructure, dredging, coastal works, heavy civil infrastructure or major capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with project delivery, procurement, construction, contract administration, consultant management and contractor oversight.
  • Strong technical judgment, project management, communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer, or eligibility for registration, with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
  • Eligibility to obtain the required Transport Canada security clearance and possession of a valid Class 5 New Brunswick driver's license, or equivalent.
  • Project management or related marine construction, dredging, environmental, safety or asset management credentials are considered assets.
