JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent performs work involving advanced nursing practice. Work includes: comprehensive patient health assessments; working with other health care professionals to develop a plan of care (as needed); diagnosing problems; prescribing medications, tests and treatments; evaluating treatment; and providing necessary follow-up care. All these duties are performed in accordance with the scope of practice of primary health care nurse practitioners. Employees with this classification provide various direct and indirect services to patients or clients in the fields of disease and injury prevention, curative care, rehabilitation, supportive care, palliative care and integrated end-of-life care. They take part in multidisciplinary and nursing rounds when appropriate. These employees organize and run screening and wellness clinics, and act as resource persons, mentors and preceptors. They are also involved in research and planning in advanced nursing and multidisciplinary health care. Other duties related to the scope of practice may also be required as part of the job, such as participating in sexual health initiatives in schools or collaborating with other sectors or programs, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing with successful completion of a postgraduate nurse practitioner program;
• Registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick;
• Five years of clinical nursing experience;
• Current BLS certificate;
• Ability to apply theoretical knowledge, good judgment and critical thinking skills of the Nurse Practitioner;
• Excellent clinical judgment and demonstrated sense of initiative;
• Good knowledge of primary health care concepts;
• Demonstrated leadership skills including good interpersonal and group communication skills;
• Demonstrated effective time management and problem solving skills;
• Teaching skills as evidenced by the ability to impart knowledge to others;
• Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Physical ability to perform the assigned work;
• Good work history (performance and attendance);
• Adherence to professional ethical principles, the Network's management philosophy, and organizational values;
