The Communications & Marketing Advisor (Term - Maternity Leave) is responsible for developing and leading effective communications initiatives for HIAA's internal and external audiences that support organizational priorities, business objectives and reputation. Leveraging superior written and verbal communication skills, the Communications & Marketing Advisor works closely with team members, employees, executives, members of the media, the community, and external agencies to advance HIAA's strategic goals. Duties include participating in the creation and implementation of innovative, strategic communications activities across various corporate channels to reach all relevant audiences.

Responsibilities

General Communications :

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans that support HIAA's organizational priorities, business objectives and reputation.
  • Provide communications advice and support to internal teams, leadership, and project partners on a range of corporate initiatives.
  • Research, write, edit, coordinate and publish content across HIAA's internal and external corporate communications channels, including social media, ensuring information is clear, accurate, timely, and aligned with HIAA's brand and voice.
  • Manage and support day-to-day engagement across HIAA's social media channels.
  • Develop key messages, briefing materials, speaking notes, presentations, correspondence, and other communications materials for HIAA leadership and employees.
  • Plan, coordinate and support the delivery of internal and external corporate events, including announcements, public meetings, employee events and stakeholder or community engagements.
  • Contribute to issues management, crisis and operational communications, including the development and coordination of timely information across internal and external channels during regular business hours and outside regular hours, when required.
  • Monitor media, social media, and the broader communications environment to identify emerging issues and opportunities relevant to HIAA, Halifax Stanfield, passengers, partners and the aviation industry.
  • Support consistent application of HIAA's brand, communications standards, and corporate messaging across the organization.

Media Relations :

  • Serve as an HIAA spokesperson and support HIAA's response to media inquiries during regular business hours and outside regular hours (when required).
  • Coordinate timely response to media inquiries, including researching information, developing key messages, arranging interviews, and providing quotes, photos, and other supporting materials.
  • Research, write, edit and distribute media releases, advisories, statements and other media communications.
  • Maintain media resources, contact information and records.
  • Coordinate media conferences, briefings, and events.
  • Monitor media coverage and emerging news relevant to HIAA, Halifax Stanfield, the aviation industry, and the communities HIAA serves.

Creative :

  • Develop and coordinate creative communication materials that support HIAA's corporate communications, employee engagement, special events and stakeholder activities.
  • Design and adapt visual content for use across social media, web, presentations, newsletters, and other internal and external communications channels.
  • Capture and edit photo and video content for corporate communications purposes, as required. Coordinate with external creative, production, advertising, and communications partners when specialized expertise or production support is required.
  • Ensure creative materials are consistent with HIAA's brand standards, regulatory requirements, and communications objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, diploma or certificate in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and tailor information for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications plans, key messages, and supporting materials for organizational initiatives, issues, and announcements
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and issues management, including responding effectively in fast-paced, sensitive or high-pressure situations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound communications advice to employees, leaders, subject matter experts, external partners, and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic working relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also managing assignments independently
  • Knowledge of current communications, public relations, digital and social media, and content development best practices
  • Bilingualism in English and French, or experience working in a bilingual communications environment considered an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable federal accessibility requirements and accessible communications practices, particularly as they relate to digital communications considered an asset
