The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Engineering Trainee, Ground Control to join our Mines Technical Services team in Sudbury. This is a permanent onsite position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
As a Ground Control Engineering Trainee, you will support the execution of the Ground Control Program and Seismic Risk Management Plans. This role supports all aspects of ground control duties at our underground operations. The role holder works with an effective ground control team, including Ground Control Engineers, Mine Technician/Technologists and/or Engineers in Training, to provide Ground Control Services to the mine operations.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating ground conditions to support the safety and stability of mine excavations in accordance with geotechnical standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Support ground control and seismic risk management activities through data collection, inspections, monitoring, and technical analysis.
- Participate in geomechanical assessments and studies to help evaluate mining layouts, sequencing, and ground support requirements under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of mine design, ground control, and geotechnical documentation and reports.
- Develop working knowledge of geotechnical engineering tools and software, including Rocscience programs, to support engineering analyses and problem solving.
- Collaborate with operations, planning, and technical teams on ground control initiatives while contributing to continuous improvement projects and safe mining practices.

About You
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering in relevant discipline.
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering, or underground mining principles.
- Experience with engineering software and data analysis tools is considered an asset.
- Willingness to learn ground control, seismic monitoring, and geotechnical assessment techniques.
- Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and professional development.
