General Manager
Halifax or Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia
Reference # JL-PGD-10043
Parsons Green Developments (PGD) is one of Nova Scotia's most active privately owned real estate development and property management companies. Since developing its first apartment building in 2008, PGD has grown from a single 22-unit property into a portfolio of nearly 400 residential units spanning multiple communities throughout the Annapolis Valley and beyond. With additional communities under construction, including over 100 units opening in the next year, and a substantial pipeline of future projects, the portfolio is expected to continue growing significantly over the coming years.
Known for delivering high-quality rental communities, strong tenant experiences, and long-term investment performance, PGD has established itself as a market leader in creating Class A rental housing throughout the Valley. The company prides itself on integrity, entrepreneurial thinking, operational excellence, and a commitment to building communities that residents are proud to call home.
As the organization continues its rapid growth, PGD is seeking a General Manager to serve as a key strategic and operational partner to the President. This is a unique opportunity for a business leader who thrives in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment and wants to play a critical role in shaping the future of a growing real estate organization.
The Role
Reporting directly to the President, the General Manager will be the senior operational leader of the business and the highest-ranking position within the organization outside of the President. The successful candidate will provide leadership across property management, administration, financial oversight, organizational development, and operational excellence while supporting the continued growth of the company's real estate portfolio.
The General Manager will bring structure, accountability, and forward-thinking leadership to the organization while ensuring the right people, systems, and processes are in place to support the next phase of growth. Acting as a trusted advisor and extension of the President, the General Manager will lead day-to-day business operations, oversee key managers and external partners, and drive initiatives that improve efficiency, profitability, and scalability across the company.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Provide overall leadership and day-to-day operational management of the business.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop managers and staff across multiple functional areas.
- Establish performance expectations, accountability measures, and operational priorities.
- Evaluate organizational structure and recommend improvements to support future growth.
- Partner with the President on succession planning, workforce planning, and talent development.
- Foster a culture of responsiveness, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Property Management Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Property Management function, including lease-up activities, tenant experience, operational performance, and portfolio growth.
- Work closely with the Director of Property Management to establish goals, improve processes, and ensure timely execution of priorities.
- Monitor occupancy, leasing performance, rental strategies, and operational metrics.
- Support the implementation of scalable processes to accommodate significant portfolio growth over the coming years.
- Ensure property operations continue to reflect the company's reputation for quality and service excellence.
- Leverage operational insights, tenant feedback, leasing trends, and portfolio performance data to inform future development decisions and ensure lessons learned from existing communities are incorporated into new projects.
Financial & Business Management
- Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and operational performance measurement.
- Work closely with the company's bookkeeping and external accounting partners to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Review financial analyses, lender requests, and business performance metrics to support informed decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of financing materials and reporting requirements for financial institutions.
- Monitor operating results across the portfolio and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
- Translate financial information into actionable business recommendations for the President.
Operational Excellence
- Develop and implement systems, policies, and operating procedures that support a growing organization.
- Lead initiatives to improve document management, information accessibility, reporting processes, and workflow effectiveness.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve responsiveness and execution.
- Coordinate internal resources and third-party partners to ensure business objectives are achieved efficiently and effectively.
- Take ownership of special projects and organizational initiatives as required.
Strategic Partnership
- Act as a trusted business partner to the President by providing sound judgment, recommendations, and decision support.
- Participate in strategic planning and help translate organizational objectives into actionable plans.
- Support investor, lender, municipal, and professional stakeholder relationships as required.
- Contribute to future development initiatives by providing operational, financial, and organizational insight.
- Act as a critical liaison between Operations and Development, ensuring information, market intelligence, tenant insights, and operational performance data are utilized to enhance future development planning and investment decisions.
- Create the leadership capacity necessary for the President to focus on development opportunities, strategic growth, and long-term value creation.
The Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced operational leader who combines strong business acumen with a practical, hands-on approach. You are comfortable navigating complexity, managing competing priorities, and leading growing teams within entrepreneurial environments. You bring a sense of urgency, strong financial understanding, and the ability to anticipate issues before they arise. Your qualifications include:

- Progressive leadership experience within property management, real estate development, construction, professional services, or a comparable entrepreneurial business environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing managers.
- Strong financial literacy with experience interpreting financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and business performance metrics.
- Proven ability to establish systems, processes, and organizational structure to support growth.
- Experience working with external stakeholders, including lenders, professional advisors, and service providers.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
