The Chapman Group is assisting their client, Turnbull Nursing Home, with seeking an experienced Administrator to lead the organization. This is an exceptional opportunity for a collaborative leader who values people, builds strong relationships, and can balance operational excellence with compassionate leadership.

For more than 100 years, Turnbull Nursing Home has provided resident-centred long-term care in the heart of Saint John. As a 50-bed, not-for-profit nursing home, they pride themselves on creating a warm, home-like environment where residents are treated with dignity, respect, and individualized care. It's a place where relationships matter, from the dedicated staff who know every resident by name to Mr. Crouton, their beloved resident cat. Their mission continues the legacy established by William Wallace Turnbull, providing exceptional care while fostering a true sense of belonging for residents and their families.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Administrator is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day operations of Turnbull Nursing Home. Leading a dedicated team of approximately 75 employees, the successful candidate will foster a culture grounded in trust, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement, while ensuring the highest standards of resident care. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable working strategically and operationally. In our collaborative environment, leaders work closely together, share responsibilities, and remain actively engaged with staff, residents, and families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the nursing home.
  • Champion Turnbull's mission, values, and resident-first philosophy.
  • Build trusted relationships with residents, families, staff, unions, government partners, and the Board.
  • Lead and support employees while fostering a positive, respectful workplace culture.
  • Oversee human resources, labour relations, recruitment, retention, and employee engagement.
  • Navigate a unionized environment while ensuring fair, consistent, and legally compliant practices.
  • Drive organizational improvements, identify efficiencies, and implement meaningful change in a thoughtful, sustainable manner.
  • Develop and maintain organizational policies and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee financial stewardship, budgeting, payroll oversight, and work collaboratively with external accounting partners.
  • Oversee risk management and occupational health and safety.
  • Support department leaders by ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed.
  • Promote innovation while maintaining the compassionate, resident-oriented culture that defines Turnbull Nursing Home.

The Ideal Candidate

You are an approachable and respected leader with a proven record of working as part of a multidisciplinary team. You are known for building trust, solving problems, and bringing people together to move initiatives forward, balancing business with the delivery of high standards of care.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who embodies the qualities that make Turnbull special:

  • Compassion and empathy
  • Strong work ethic
  • Initiative and accountability
  • Collaborative leadership style
  • Ability to empower and develop others
  • Sound judgement in complex situations
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • A genuine passion for serving seniors and supporting those who care for them

You'll join a dedicated team where:

  • Residents always come first
  • Relationships matter
  • Collaboration is essential
  • Improvement is encouraged
  • Every employee contributes to creating a true sense of home
