We invite you to join the New Brunswick Tourism, Heritage and Culture team! The Health and Safety Consultant supports the various Divisions within the Department which includes Tourism, Heritage, Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation, Parks, Arts and Culture and Corporate Services. We have the opportunity to support the work happening in some of the most beautiful places that New Brunswick has to offer.

What you will do:

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will work to ensure the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is a healthy and safe work environment and assist in meeting the legislative requirements, by providing expert leadership, best practices, research and tools. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a high-functioning safety program in a challenging and rewarding field.

As a member of this team, you will provide client-focused and integrated advice and services across the Department, including Provincial Parks, Museums and Attractions, in the areas of Health and Safety.

The duties and responsibilities will include:

• Reporting serious accidents, incidents, hazardous materials, near misses, issues and complaints, conducting investigations, and supporting WorkSafeNB claims
• Providing guidance as a subject matter expert on occupational health and safety standards, risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems
• Developing, implementing and maintaining a fundamental health and safety program and initiatives on behalf of the Department with an emphasis on compliance, critical hazard identification and risk reduction designed to promote a culture of safe workplaces, where employees are qualified
• Evaluating current processes and practices across the Department to ensure standardization in processes and application
• Developing, coordinating and/or delivering required regulatory health and safety educational sessions to the Department
• Being a liaison between the Department and WorkSafeNB, and advising the Department as it relates to any form of regulatory requirement or order
• Developing, implementing and maintaining health and safety program tools to assist the Department in ensuring they meet their regulatory compliance requirements and ensuring tools are kept up-to-date, easily available and clearly communicated
• Partnering with and coaching supervisors and managers on their duties as it relates to health and safety
• Performing any other duties as required

You are someone who has a passion for the health and safety of all employees. You must be a team player with strong interpersonal, communication skills and be self-motivated.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Required Competencies:

• University degree in a science or occupational health related field with a minimum of five (5) years of safety-related work experience OR a post-secondary diploma in a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of safety-related work experience
• Considerable experience in using Microsoft Office 365 software and applications
• Valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Nice to have:

• Possession of a certificate in a recognized Health and Safety program
• Valid Emergency First Aid/CPR certification
• Ergonomic Assessment training

Wage:

Pay Band 5: $2,600.00 to $3,631.00 bi-weekly

Work environment:

• Office location: Marysville Place, 20 McGloin Street, Fredericton
• Open office layout
• Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30
• Periodic travel throughout the province to Provincial Parks, Museums and Attractions
• No seafood or shellfish allowed in the office
