The Office of the NB Advocate operates under the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate Act to ensure that the rights and interests of vulnerable populations - including, children, youth, vulnerable adults, and seniors - are upheld in government policies, programs, and services. This is achieved through:
- Independent and confidential examination of complaints or concerns regarding access to appropriate services,
- Monitoring and assessing laws, policies, and services to ensure fairness and proper implementation,
- Providing recommendations to government and advocating for improvements,
- Reporting on the availability, effectiveness, and responsiveness of services in New Brunswick.
The Office of the NB Advocate is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a 6-month contract as an Individual Case Specialist, with potential for extension.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Individual Case Advocacy, the successful candidate will:
- Work directly with individuals, families, and government to ensure access to appropriate services
- Handle questions and complaints related to services for vulnerable populations
- Assess whether government policies, procedures, and legislation are being properly followed
- Advocate for remedies to individuals' problems by identifying gaps in services and suggesting solutions
- Conduct policy research to support advocacy efforts
- Interact with government and community organizations regarding individual case files
Essential Qualifications
- Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.
- Ability to foster trusting relationships
- Experience in a social services field such as adult protection, health, housing, public safety, child services, legal advocacy, elder care, or other client-serving work
- Familiarity with provincial government programs and community-based services
- Travel within the province, at times will be required

Wage:
Pay Band 5
Work environment:
The successful candidate will work from one of the Advocate's offices in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, or Bathurst, with options for other work locations within the province possible to be explored.
