About the Department/Region

Context: The Eastern Region maintains and supports approximately 3,500 NL Housing rental properties on the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas through offices in St. John's (Avalon) and Marystown. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations including eviction prevention, and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. A variety of programs designed to support low to moderate income households and homeowners are also delivered. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Salary Scale: $48,505 to $53,414 per annum (CG-26, $23.32 to $25.68 per hour), 40-hour work week

Duties:

The incumbent performs skilled repair, maintenance, refurbishment, and vacancy preparation work on NL Housing residential units in the Marystown area. Duties include plastering, painting, drywall repair, general carpentry, minor construction work, and basic plumbing repairs. Responsibilities may also include mold and mildew remediation, minor asbestos abatement in accordance with safety standards, and working from and assembling scaffolding when required. The role involves determining the scope of work in consultation with the supervisor, preparing labour and material estimates, maintaining related records, and completing repairs on both occupied and vacant units. Other related and seasonal duties may also be required.

Screening Criteria

Completion of a Carpentry, Painting and Decorating, or Renovation Technician program (equivalencies may be considered).

Experience in residential plastering and painting.

Experience in residential carpentry, maintenance, or construction.

Experience in basic plumbing.

Assessment Criteria

Knowledge of plastering and painting practices, including the use and care of tools.

Knowledge of carpentry methods and practices, including the use and care of tools.

Knowledge of basic plumbing practices, including the use and care of tools.

Knowledge of the National Building Code is considered an asset.

Ability to estimate materials, supplies, and labour.

Ability to effectively exchange information.

Ability to work independently and manage time and tasks efficiently.
