The Caring Nest Home Care Inc. is a small options home located in Cole Harbour, N.S. that has been serving persons with disabilities for over 25 years. This incredible team is proud to make a difference working together with their residents every day to live to their full potential.
We are looking for someone who can support our residents in a positive, creative manner using the Core Competencies and experience to provide a safe home environment. Nursing Students, CCA, RRW, RCW, Personal experience is an asset.
Responsibilities
Our Team is looking for someone with experience with mental health illness, an understanding of Schizophrenia, Intellectual Disabilities, anxieties, personal care & hygiene.
Key Responsibilities - required to work shift work weekends, evenings & nights biweekly & holidays either Christmas or New Year's alternating each year with holiday pay.
Casual, Part Time and Full Time Position with a rotating bi-weekly schedule:
Days - 7:00am to 7:00pm, 7:00am to 4:00pm, 8:00am to 8:00pm, 9:00am to 3:00pm, 10:00am to 10:00pm
Evenings - 3:00pm to 7:00pm, 4:00 to 9:00pm
Night Shift - 7:00pm to 7:00am, Night Sleep 12:00am to 6:00am within night shift hours
- Medication administering, receiving, and counting medications, preparing medication records and transfers.
- Meal preparation-cooking and serving a variety of different health needs from high fibre and low sugar options, following Canadian Food Guide, and practicing Food Handlers.
- House Cleaning - vacuuming, dusting, dishes, laundry, changing bedding, cleaning bathrooms, etc.
- Personal Care & Hygiene -involving bathing or assisting mobile residents, daily peri care, supporting with dental hygiene and giving reminders for personal care.
- Charting- Progress Notes, Daily Logs - recording food, activities, appointments, meetings, money counts. Completing month and quarterly reports.
- Individuals- spending quality time with residents in-house or on outings, planning activities, idividuals day programing activities in-house and in the community, willingness to work as a team and independent, attend appointments, communication with families.
- Computer Skills - typing, file location, printing, and filing.
- Take direction from co-workers, supervisor until trusting relationship is built with individuals and team.
Qualifications
- Core Competencies outlined by the Province of Nova Scotia or CCA Program some courses qualify.
- Medication Awareness, NVCI- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Food Handlers, Standard First Aide & CPR, Person Centered Planning, Health & Personal Care, Positive Behavior Support, WHIMIS, Criminal Record Check -Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable sector check.
- Assets - own vehicle to take residents to outings, appointments, drives, must have clean driving record and current license with the Province of N.S. and Insurance.
- Good verbal & writing communication skills as well as basic computer skills to provide reports and print files as needed.
- Takes initiative and is a strong hard-working co-worker.
