A Meaningful Leadership Opportunity

Community Inclusion Society (Community Inc) is seeking an experienced, grounded Executive Director to guide the organization through its next chapter. This is not a role for someone seeking rapid expansion or transformational growth on day one. This role is for a leader who understands that strong impact begins with a healthy foundation.

Community Inc delivers essential employment supports across Kings County and West Hants County through government?funded programs. The organization operates in a unionized environment, across multiple sites, and within complex accountability frameworks. Stability, clarity, and professional leadership matter deeply, both to staff and to the communities served. We are looking for a leader who is calm under pressure, comfortable with difficult conversations, and capable of bringing structure, consistency, and trust back into day?to?day operations.

What the Organization Needs Right Now

The next Executive Director will be asked to focus primarily on internal leadership and organizational stability, while maintaining strong relationships with funders and community partners. This work includes:

  • Establishing clear expectations, boundaries, and accountability across the organization
  • Supporting staff through change with empathy, transparency, and consistency
  • Strengthening internal systems, documentation, and operational practices
  • Navigating unionized labour relations with professionalism and confidence
  • Ensuring all reporting, funding, and compliance requirements are met without exception
  • Navigating with funders on multi-year agreements (currently up for renewal in 2027)
  • Bringing consistency and cohesion across both Kentville and Windsor operations

Who You Are

You are an experienced leader who has worked inside complexity. You have:

  • Senior leadership experience in nonprofit, public sector, or community?based organizations
  • Familiarity with unionized environments, experience with contract negotiations considered an asset
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors
  • Strong financial literacy and comfort with government funding, reporting, and accountability
  • The confidence to address conflict directly, respectfully, and constructively
  • A proven and genuine dedication to supporting Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in community

You lead with professionalism, not ego. You are warm but firm. You understand that kindness and boundaries are not opposites, and that clarity builds trust.

Why This Role Matters

Community Inclusion Society plays a critical role in supporting employment, inclusion, and participation in the community. The Executive Director will help ensure that the people delivering this work are supported, aligned, and able to do their jobs well. This is an opportunity to make a real difference-not by doing everything at once, but by doing the right things well.

Commitment to Equity, Inclusion & Belonging

Community Inclusion Society is committed to equity, accessibility, and inclusion. We encourage applications from individuals who identify as members of equity?seeking groups, including but not limited to Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized persons, women, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We also invite candidates to share any accommodations you might need to fully participate in the interview process and resulting work should you be the successful candidate.

We recognize that experience can take many forms. If you believe you bring the leadership, judgment, and values this role requires, we want to hear from you.

Recruitment Timeline

We value transparency and want you to know what to expect in this process:

  • June 19, 2026 - Application deadline
  • June 25 - June 26, 2026 - Round 1: Zoom interviews (afterward for successful candidates, a full Job Description and Audited Financials will be provided)

We look forward to reading your cover letter and how you highlight the impact that your career has made, and why you are inspired to lead Community Inclusion Society.
