WHO WE ARE:

The New Brunswick Museum (NBM) is one of Canada's oldest continuing museums and is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history, culture, art, and natural heritage of New Brunswick. Through exhibitions, educational programming, community partnerships, and public engagement initiatives, the Museum works to connect people across the province and beyond. This summer, the Museum is launching a new Mobile Museum initiative that will travel to communities and events across New Brunswick, bringing interactive experiences, outreach, and engagement directly to the public.

THE POSITION:

The New Brunswick Museum is seeking responsible, mature, and dependable candidates to support the operation and delivery of the Mobile Museum initiative across New Brunswick. Successful candidates will play an important role representing the Museum at festivals, community events, partner locations, and public gatherings throughout the province. This position involves travelling extensively with the Mobile Museum, assisting with the transportation and operation of a large trailer-based exhibit, engaging with visitors and local community museum partners, supporting onsite logistics, and helping create positive public experiences and memories.

The ideal candidate is reliable, professional, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in dynamic environments. Candidates should be comfortable travelling throughout the province and working independently in a mobile environment. Experience operating larger vehicles (trucks) or towing a trailer is considered an asset.

Experience with storytelling, interpretation, public outreach, social media, photography, or content creation is also considered an asset; however, training and support will be provided. This position will require evening and weekend work, travel throughout the province, and overnight stays with all expenses covered.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while representing the Museum in public settings. Successful candidates will bring a combination of the following:

Behavioural competencies: Reliability and professionalism; strong interpersonal and communication skills; independence and initiative; sound judgment and responsibility; adaptability and flexibility; organizational and problem-solving skills; teamwork and collaboration; and client service orientation.

Technical competencies: Confidence operating large vehicles (trucks) and towing trailers; public engagement and customer service; event support and logistics; basic retail and point-of-sale operations; social media, photography, or content creation considered an asset.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver's licence required; candidates holding a Class 3 licence may be given preference;
  • Confidence and demonstrated ability driving large vehicles and towing trailers (20-30ft) an asset;
  • Comfortable operating a large truck towing a trailer (20-30ft) in different environments an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment while travelling;
  • Proven reliability, maturity, and responsibility through employment, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, or other experience; and
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Post-secondary background in communications, tourism, education, arts and culture, natural history/sciences, recreation, event coordination, marketing, history, public engagement, skilled trades, or related fields are considered assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will support the operation and delivery of the New Brunswick Museum's Mobile Museum initiative while assisting with storytelling, digital engagement, and community outreach activities across the province, which include:

  • Mobile Museum
    • Travelling and overnighting in communities across the province (all expenses covered) and operating the museum trailer;
    • Supporting the safe transportation, setup, and operation of the museum trailer and exhibits;
    • Assisting with onsite logistics and day-to-day operations during events and public engagements;
    • Supporting the delivery of interactive visitor experiences and exhibit;
    • Assisting with retail operations, including processing purchases, memberships, and donations;
    • Supporting visitor engagement, attendance tracking, and feedback collection; and
    • Acting as a professional ambassador for the New Brunswick Museum.
  • Content Creation and Community Outreach
    • Promoting the Mobile Museum, its schedule, events, and initiatives through digital platforms;
    • Creating social media content during events, community visits, and partner engagements;
    • Assisting with photography, videography, and developing engaging behind-the-scenes content;
    • Interviewing community members, museum partners, visitors, and organizers on and off-site;
    • Supporting the planning and coordination of community museum partner meetings and visits;
    • Working collaboratively with partners to develop engaging storytelling content; and
    • Helping develop written content, captions, and community spotlights.
