Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist I performs medical laboratory testing in the Biochemistry Laboratory. Work includes performing routine and specialized analysis of various body fluids; maintaining the integrity of the specimens through proper identification; handling, sorting and storing of samples; reviewing all patient reports and entering data; participating in various research studies; providing clinical guidance/instruction to students; consulting and providing guidance to nursing and medical staff; and performing other related duties as required.

Occasionally lifts and/or unload objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
Regularly stands or sits for extended periods, requiring constant repetitive movement of upper extremities and walking to deliver reports/results.
Visual and auditory concentration are constant and eye/hand coordination and higher than normal levels of attentiveness are required.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a general MLT or applicable subject MLT is required.
Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
* The successful applicant must be willing to complete at the first available opportunity refresher courses at the request of the employer.
** Medical Radiation Technologists and X - Ray Health Professionals will require registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP) in the appropriate discipline(s) in order to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador.
