ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Program of NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Hematopathologist to join the Hematopathology Division at Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, NL.

The successful candidate will join three (3) other Hematopathologists and work in collaboration with molecular and diagnostic pathologists, clinical and medical microbiologists, genetics scientists, and clinical chemists, providing the province with tertiary and quaternary laboratory care.

The Division of Hematopathology offers transfusion medicine, bone marrow pathology, flow cytometry, hematology core lab, coagulation, and hemoglobinopathy services. It also provides training to medical laboratory technology students, medical students, anatomic pathology, and other medical residents. Hematopathologists are supported by molecular pathology and cytogenetics laboratories providing testing for various myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms, and by immunohistochemistry laboratories.

This full-time position will also share responsibilities in providing medical oversight in hematopathology and transfusion medicine to rural hospitals and community health centres across NL, offering basic hematology, coagulation, and transfusion medicine testing and transfusion services. The position will provide consultative services for a wide variety of patient programs including hematology, bleeding and coagulation disorders, bone marrow transplantation, and blood transfusion.

Through strong formal affiliations with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidate will be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment in the Academic Discipline of Laboratory Medicine and will be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship including teaching, research, and other academic pursuits.
