DUTIES
Under general supervision, the Welder II will perform skilled work in the design, calibration, construction, repair, and modification of apparatus and equipment used in both laboratory and field environments to support teaching and research programs. The successful applicant will exercise judgment in determining the work layout and variations to choose the appropriate actions for projects. Duties include welding and operating a variety of welding and metal fabrication equipment, such as a cold bar bender, pipe bender, iron worker, sheet metal rollers, metal brake, and metal shears; reading and interpreting blueprints; developing layouts and templates; working in confined spaces or from heights, as required; using welding and cutting processes such as SMAW, GMAW, GTMAW, and FCAW; performing RSW, plasma cutting, water jet cutting, and oxy-acetylene welding; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) working as a journeyperson welder welding or fabricating in an industry or university-related environment; graduation from high school, supplemented by the successful completion of a Journeyperson Red Seal certificate in welding, is required; or an equivalent combination and training may be considered. Experience in welding steel, aluminum, and stainless steel; working with pressure systems, pipework, heavy industrial steelwork; and rigging and CAD experience would be considered assets.
SALARY $60,091- $67,257 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
