Job Summary
The Clinical Occupational Therapist II is responsible for the professional and clinical leadership/supervision of Clinical Occupational Therapist I?s and support personnel for inpatient services within the Adult Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Geriatrics program. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II applies clinical knowledge and skills to plan, implement, co-ordinate, evaluate and oversee occupational therapy services. Work includes client management, input into program and policy development, project development, quality initiatives, participating in evidence-based practice, education, and community capacity building.
The Clinical Occupational Therapist II is a member of the interprofessional team providing services for clients admitted to inpatient rehabilitation services at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre. The population served on 2 North includes clients with complex neurological conditions as well as orthopedic conditions and multi-trauma (e.g., Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Traumatic Brain Injury). This Clinical Occupational Therapist II will work in consultation with the SCI Navigator to develop and implement the domains of care for clients with SCI as outlined by the IEQCC (Implementation and Evaluation Quality Care Consortium). Occupational therapy will include assessment, intervention, and education of the client, family and caregivers to promote occupational participation. There is a significant focus on care of self, postural seating, positioning, cognition, management of adaptive aids, including technical aids, recommendations related to home accessibility, and planning the return to community living, including participation in meaningful occupations that contribute to wellbeing.
In this role the Clinical Occupational Therapist II will build respectful relationships with clients, interprofessional team members, and others involved in the systems in which they work. The Occupational Therapist will recognize the social, structural, political, and ecological determinants of health impacting clients.
This position is a member of the Adult Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Geriatrics Program Occupational Therapy practice group. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II will receive clinical mentorship and supervision from the Clinical Occupational Therapist III for Adult Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Geriatrics. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within NL Health Services.
This position reports to the Division Manager and maintains accountability to the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Qualifications
Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board.
Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board.
A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in adult physical health including one year of experience with adults with spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury is required.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.
Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation, report writing and professional communications
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of occupational therapy practice to others.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Assistants and students.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
