Who we are:
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) is responsible for cultivating learning environments in which children and youth can develop the qualities and competencies needed to be lifelong learners and achieve personal fulfillment. We are responsible for developing and regulating the child-care sector, curriculum development, teacher certification, provincial assessments and evaluations, and supporting public schools in the province of NB.

The Policy and Legislative Affairs Branch is seeking individuals to fill Policy Analyst positions. Policy Analysts work across government and with school districts to ensure policies and priorities are aligned, responsive, and focus on improving outcomes for children, youth, and families across the province.

What you will do:
A Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for identifying and addressing policy issues, developing new provincial policies, and leading key files while providing strategic analysis and advice. In this role, you will conduct research, prepare and deliver presentations, and contribute to the development of written materials such as proposals, Cabinet submissions, reports, briefing notes, and strategic plans.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across branches and departments, as well as with both Anglophone and Francophone school districts throughout the province, to support informed decision-making and effective policy development.

Who you are:
A Policy Analyst is responsible for client engagement, identifying opportunities, conducting research and analysis, managing projects, facilitating groups, developing business cases, and preparing reports. In this role, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic, effective, and efficient decision-making for program transformation and large-scale initiatives.

We are seeking individuals who are skilled, adaptable, and outcomes-focused, with a strong sense of initiative and a positive mindset. You bring creativity, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to think on your feet and deliver results in a dynamic environment.

The major responsibilities of the position are:

  • Develop and contribute to policy, legislative, and regulatory proposals for Cabinet approval.
  • Prepare and/or provide strategic advice and briefing materials related to early childhood and K-12 policy and legislation under the Education Act and the Early Childhood Services Act.
  • Draft and/or develop responses to requests from the public, school districts, other jurisdictions, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct and/or lead policy research and analysis to inform program development, strategic decision-making, and policy direction.
  • Liaise with other jurisdictions, consult with stakeholders, and represent the Department on interdepartmental committees.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Essential Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, commerce, public administration, political science or a related degree;
  • 5 years of experience in policy analysis, writing briefing notes, research, proposals for the development or amendment of policy, projects which involve changes to regulations, legislation, and provincial school policy.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Candidates who do not meet the full qualifications may be appointed at a lower classification level, with salary determined based on qualifications and experience, in accordance with the Civil Service Act and associated regulations.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Wage:
Pay Band 6: $78,546 - $104,494 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30.
