The Corporate Planning team is responsible for meeting regulatory obligations related to resource adequacy planning and ensuring alignment with NB Power's strategic plan. This includes compliance with requirements set by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC), as well as conducting both long-term and near-term resource planning activities, such as the Integrated Resource Plan and annual resource adequacy assessments.
As part of the Corporate Planning Team, the Engineer I-IV is responsible to provide technical engineering support to assess whether NB Power has adequate supply of resources to meet customer demand in the near and long-time planning horizon.
Key functions include:
- Conduct deterministic and probabilistic assessments such as load and resource balance, capacity expansion planning, loss of load probability, and effective load carrying capability.
- Conduct data collection, extensive modeling, simulation, and analysis using Plexos software.
- Develop, maintain, and apply automation, scripts, queries, and database management solutions; perform advanced data analysis using tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or equivalent; and utilize the Microsoft Office product suite for analysis and reporting.
- Prepare clear and accurate technical documentation and communicate results effectively; work independently to learn new concepts and present technical findings to diverse audiences.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer licensed in New Brunswick or eligible for immediate transfer
- Strong analytical skills, comfortable manipulating large datasets, knowledge of statistical analysis, scenario modeling, and or forecasting techniques
- Knowledge of electrical systems, power systems, renewable energy, and demand side management would be an asset
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
