Construction Manager (Turbine & Generator)
Regular position
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
Competition # E22413-2026
At NB Power we are a team, committed to offering the best customer experience, ensuring energy security, and accelerating a sustainable clean energy transition. Why? Because we're New Brunswickers too, we care about our customers and future generations, and today we are actively looking for a new member to join us.
The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction. The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete overtime.
Reporting to the Senior Construction Manager, the Construction Manager (Turbine & Generator) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all construction activities related to the turbine and generator scope for the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project (MLAP). This role ensures that all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, schedule, budget, and quality standards. The Construction Manager (Turbine & Generator) works closely with contractors, the Engineer of Record (EOR), operations, and internal stakeholders to support design, manage construction execution, and resolve complex on-site issues associated with turbine and generator installation within an operating hydroelectric facility.
Key functions include:
- Lead and coordinate turbine and generator construction activities, including installation, alignment, and commissioning to ensure alignment with safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Manage contractors and collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams to ensure effective execution and integration of turbine and generator work across the site.
- Monitor daily construction progress, troubleshoot technical and interface issues specific to turbine and generator scope, and implement corrective actions to maintain project performance.
- Participate in constructability reviews, review issued-for-construction drawings, and support change management processes related to turbine and generator systems.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and WorkSafe NB safety requirements.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- Seven years of experience in hydro generation, industrial, or large infrastructure projects with specific experience in turbine and generator systems
- Three years of experience in a supervisory role managing multi-functional teams
- Strong knowledge of turbine and generator systems, including installation, alignment, testing, and commissioning practices, as well as contract management and project delivery in brownfield and/or greenfield environments
- Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, resolve complex technical and site issues related to turbine and generator scope, and work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Registered Professional Engineer licensed in New Brunswick or eligible for immediate transfer considered as an asset
