Cost Controller (Major Projects)

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent cost reporting aligned with corporate financial structures;
- Own full project cost forecasting, including annual budget alignment and integration with budget cycles;
- Track, validate, and communicate cost changes and impacts to project and organizational leadership;
- Partner with Project Managers and functional managers to monitor and analyze project cost performance, ensuring alignment with capital plans, budgets, and forecasts;
- Develop and maintain project forecasts, cash flow projections, and trend analyses; identify risks and opportunities, perform variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions;
- Consolidate project forecasts into divisional outlooks, supporting quarterly reforecasts and annual capital planning;
- Provide decision support, including scenario modeling, "what-if" assessments, and cost optimization strategies;
- Lead cost-related activities for project initiation and closeout, including budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and final reporting;
- Analyze cost and operational data to support corporate performance measurement and identify efficiency opportunities;
- Provide training and guidance to project and departmental managers on cost systems, reporting tools, and cost management processes;
- Collaborate with Corporate Finance and other departments on monthly, quarterly and year-end close activities including budget, forecast, and actual reporting;
- Develop, document, implement, and maintain cost management tools, reporting frameworks, and processes; deliver insights and reporting to stakeholders, including senior leadership (e.g., S-curves, capital metrics, variance analysis).
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a professional accounting designation, Engineering Technology, or Engineering (or equivalent combination of education/training/experience);
- At least 7-8 years of progressive experience in cost management, preferably within a project-based environment or cost-related roles;
- Strong understanding of accounting processes, financial systems, forecasting, and cost reporting;
- Advanced Excel; Proficiency in Omega365 or other Project Controls Management Systems & JD Edwards preferred; Power BI (or similar) is an asset;
- Knowledge of AACE cost management practices and Earned Value Analysis;
- Experience on large infrastructure projects (electrical energy sector preferred) with the ability to interpret contracts and technical documentation.
