About the Department/Region
Context:
The Eastern Regional Office maintains and supports all NL Housing rental properties in the Avalon and Marystown areas, as well as delivering a variety of programs designed for low to moderate income households and homeowners. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations; and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Salary Scale: $48,505 to $53,414 per annum ($23.32 to $25.68 hourly CG-24, 40-hour work week)
Duties: The incumbent is responsible for performing skilled repair and refurbishment work on NL Housing owned residential units. Work performed includes carpentry (including the replacement of doors, windows, siding and cupboards), plastering/painting, and plumbing. Work may involve mold/mildew remediation, as well as minor asbestos abatement. The incumbent also determines scope of work in consultation with supervisor, prepares estimates of materials/supplies and labour, and maintains labour and material records. The incumbent completes work on occupied and vacant units, including the preparation of vacant units for occupancy. The incumbent may be required to install and work from scaffolding. Other related work in the various trades may be required.
Screening Criteria
High School Diploma
Completion of a one-year post-secondary course in a particular building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical trade (equivalencies may be considered)
Experience in residential carpentry, maintenance, and/or construction.
Experience in basic plumbing
Assessment Criteria
Knowledge of plastering and painting practices, including the use and care of tools.
Knowledge of carpentry methods and practices, including the use and care of tools.
Knowledge of basic plumbing practices, including the use and care of tools.
Knowledge of the National Building Code (asset)
Knowledge of scaffolding installation and work procedures (asset)
Ability to estimate materials, supplies, and labour
Ability to effectively exchange information.
Ability to work independently and manage time and tasks efficiently.
