Western Zone invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant positions within the General Surgery department at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, NL. The successful candidates will join the General Surgery team, supporting physicians in the delivery of comprehensive surgical care. Responsibilities include assisting with outpatient clinics, inpatient rounds, admissions and discharges, coordination of patient follow-up, participation in family meetings, and other clinical duties within the scope of the Clinical Assistant licence. The role also includes providing surgical assistance in the operating room for General Surgery procedures. Work Environment Western Memorial Regional Hospital (WMRH) is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art acute care facility that opened in June 2024. The hospital serves as a 164-bed regional referral centre for Western Newfoundland, delivering a broad range of secondary and select tertiary services to a population of approximately 80,000 residents across the region. ???????????????????????????????????????? QUALIFICATIONS
  • Eligible for licensure as a Clinical Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority
???????????????????????????????????????? DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist physicians with outpatient clinics, inpatient rounds, admissions, and discharges
  • Coordinate patient follow-up and participate in family meetings
  • Provide surgical assistance in the operating room for General Surgery procedures
  • Participate in after-hours, weekend, and statutory holiday on-call coverage across all surgical specialties as needed
  • Perform other clinical duties within the scope of the Clinical Assistant licence
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
???????????????????????????????????????? REMUNERATION Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Step assignment will be determined by the Department of Health based on experience. Benefits Include:
  • Annual Leave ? 20 working days
  • Bereavement/Compassionate Leave ? 3 working days
  • Compensatory Leave ? 5 working days (after 1 year of service)
  • Family Leave ? 3 working days
  • Education Leave ? 5 working days (non-cumulative)
  • Sick Leave ? calculated at 2 days per month of service (maximum 480 days)
  • Study Leave ? 10 days per year
