The Law Society of New Brunswick is an independent body which has as its primary responsibility, the protection of the public in the administration of justice.

If you are a dynamic and experienced lawyer, preferably with a flair for the management of financial and/or insurance programs, we would be interested in talking to you about our Insurance Director position.

As Insurance Director, you will primarily be responsible for managing all aspects of the office of the Professional Liability Reserve; and for facilitating audit processes, actuarial evaluations; and for dealing with matters related to the Canadian Lawyers Insurance Program. You will also be called upon to direct the work of defence counsel in managing claims. Directing the work of administrative staff and managing Insurance Management Committee (IMC) meetings and a number of sub-committees are also requirements of this position. You will also work with other legal services and provide support as required, to other departments.

We are looking for someone with a high level of advocacy and a broad range of legal knowledge and skills, as well as significant judgment, attention to detail, discretion, and a comprehensive understanding of the Law Society Act, 1996 and General Rules. The ability for you to work in both official languages is a must for both written and verbal communication.

The Insurance Director will report to the Executive Director of the Law Society on administrative matters and to the Insurance Management Committee on all other matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

While ideally, we are looking for someone with 10 years of progressive experience, we are committed to developing our employees through experience, and training.   • Membership to the Law Society of New Brunswick or eligible for admission to the Law Society of New Brunswick.
  • 10 years of progressive experience, including in a leadership capacity.
  • Expertise in civil litigation, including a thorough knowledge of the rules of civil procedure and evidence, as well as knowledge and understanding of administrative and regulatory law.
  • Thorough understanding of the Law Society's mandate, services, legislation, and policies.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and French.
  • Managed insurance portfolio in some capacity.
  • Proven to be organized, efficient and discreet.
  • Ability to work with people in hostile and/or challenging circumstances.
  • Excellent understanding of general accounting, financial and business concepts.
  • Ability to manage a complex, multi-issue, and diverse caseload.
  • Ability to work under the pressures and direction of Committees.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position is in Fredericton and travel throughout New Brunswick may be required.

REMUNERATION: $167,735-$186,372 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive group benefits program and RRSP contributions are also part of the total rewards program.
