Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 7:30 am - 4:00 pm | 40 hours per week

Salary Range: $23.75- $29.42 per hour

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Building Operations Manager, the Building Operator is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance and efficient operation of physical assets, as assigned to them by their supervisor. The Building Operator is responsible for the wellbeing of the people working, learning, and living within the buildings at UNBSJ. The operator is required to perform duties as it pertains to maintenance, including duties of other classifications (ie. utility operator).

  • Respond to incoming Service Orders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform thorough daily inspections of buildings to identify faults, ensure standard of cleaning is maintained and ensure general standards of appearance are upheld.
  • Complete work according to Preventative Maintenance Program. Perform repairs to buildings as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with building systems (ex. emergency lighting, interior/exterior lighting, electrical systems, HVAC systems, plumbing and water systems, sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers).
  • Assist, as required, in the removal of snow and ice to ensure safe entry to and exit from the buildings.
  • Ensure timely and efficient completion of all necessary documentation (ex. service order completion notification).
  • Contribute to after-hours emergency response across all campus buildings on a rotational basis.
  • Contribute to vacation/absence coverage across all campus buildings on a rotational basis as required.
  • Report maintenance problems and building component failures to Building Operations Manager.
  • Assist in enforcement of applicable policies and regulations.
  • Promote, in an active and positive manner and by being accessible and visible within his/her assigned buildings, the functions of the Department of Facilities Management. Communicate effectively and professionally with University student, faculty and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Secondary schooling in accordance with provincial standards and Interprovincial Trade Qualifications or a Certified Journeyman with Department of Advanced Education apprenticeship
  • 3-6 years' experience in a similar or related field, preferably experience with plumbing, HVAC, or mechanical.

Additional Strengths

  • BOMI Systems Maintenance Technician Certificate is considered an asset.
  • WHMIS certification, must be completed once in position
  • Workplace Standard Fist Aid is considered an asset.
  • Ability to openly communicate in a compelling, honest, persuasive and articulate manner

  • Ability to focus efforts on achieving quality results, consistent with departmental vision
