About the Department/Region

Context: The Eastern Region maintains and supports approximately 3,500 NL Housing rental properties on the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas through offices in St. John's (Avalon) and Marystown. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations including eviction prevention, and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. A variety of programs designed to support low to moderate income households and homeowners are also delivered. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Salary Scale: $57,428 to $63,793 per annum (CG-29, $27.61 to $30.67 per hour), 40-hour work week

Duties:

This position is accountable for the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, as well as performing major electrical upgrades. The work encompasses the repair and/or replacement of wall outlets, light fixtures, lighting controls, smoke detectors, electrical motors, generators, and appliances. Major upgrades include replacing service entrances, panel boxes, and conversion of units to electric heat. The successful applicant will record material usage, maintain labour records, and requisition supplies. Other related work, including general housing maintenance and basic carpentry, may be required. The successful applicant will be required to draw electrical permits and may be required to mentor an apprentice

Screening Criteria

Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification in the Construction Electrician Trade

Two years of post-Journeyperson experience in residential electrical construction, major upgrade, and repair work

Appliance repair experience (asset)

Assessment Criteria

Knowledge of the electrical trade including the use and care of tools.

Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation

Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code

Knowledge of business application software (Excel, Word), financial and work order systems

Ability to estimate and order materials, supplies, and labour

Ability to effectively exchange information

Ability to work independently and manage time and tasks efficiently

Proof of a valid class 5 driver's license.

An acceptable driver's abstract

An acceptable Certificate of Conduct

Proof of eligibility for Electrical Contractor's License from the City of St. John's

Proof of eligibility for Electrical Contractor's License from the Digital Government and Service NL

Proof of Corporate Insurability

Conditions of Acceptance:

Willing to accept day travel (significant)

Willing to accept overnight travel to remote areas (periodic)

Willing to accept on-call rotation
