Position description
The University of King's College School of Journalism, Writing & Publishing is seeking applications for a half-time Administrative Assistant position beginning May 2026. Reporting to the Director, Associate Director, and Administrator of Writing & Publishing, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for assisting with delivery of MFA residencies and programs.
Key responsibilities
- Receiving and processing mentor, instructor, guest, and vendor invoices
- Assisting with department meeting and event scheduling
- Processing financial transactions
- Assist with running department events (may include occasional nights and weekends)
- Designing program signage, advertising, social media content, and print materials (knowledge of Canva or other design software an asset)
- Liaising with King's Conference Services, AV, Food Services, Bookstore, and Facilities
- Communicating with students, faculty, alumni, and incoming students
- Other duties as assigned
Education And Qualifications
- Diploma or equivalent in a relevant field is required
- 1-2 years' experience in university or equivalent administration is required
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of the MFA residency and program an asset
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities and work quickly under pressure
- Must possess strong organizational and communication skills
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends

- Preferred start date: May 25, 2026
- Annual Salary range: $46,046-$51,165
- Includes comprehensive benefits with medical and dental; eligible for enrollment in the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).
