We are currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Capital Projects team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Manager Project Execution, this role will work with a team of technical and project professionals in the development and execution of complex capital projects and capital programs.
While primarily focused on existing Hydro and Wind assets, projects may also include supporting NS Power's Energy Delivery, Thermal Generation, and Real Estate teams with the execution of unique projects in alignment with NS Power's Project Delivery Model.
Key elements of this role include:
As a Senior Project Engineer:
- You will be responsible for the execution of projects assigned to the Capital Projects group in accordance with NS Power's Project Delivery Model. This includes but is not limited to the following activities:
- Complete constructability reviews of project detailed design & budget
- Managing contractors in accordance with NS Power's Contractor Safety Management Program
- Ensuring all construction work is completed in accordance with all regulatory requirements and granted permits
- Following and preparing documentation in accordance with NS Power's change management processes
- Manage project budget and financial forecast
- Perform and/or update economic analyses for different project alternatives
- Communicating with and providing progress updates to various internal and external project stakeholders
- You will be required to collaborate with members of the following teams to ensure the projects are developed in accordance with company guidelines and successfully and safely implemented: Hydro and Wind Operations, Energy Delivery, Thermal Generation, Enterprise Asset Management, Environmental Services, Safety, Regulatory Affairs, and NS Power leadership
- You will champion safety excellence by proactively maintaining personal safety standards, safeguarding co-workers, and directing teams to rigorously comply with Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations, integrating safety and environmental considerations as foundational principles in project design and execution.
- You will be accountable for environmental management system processes and initiatives.
- You could be required to facilitate activities to produce project applications for internal and external regulatory approvals.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
Education & Experience:
- Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil preferred)
- Professional Engineer with at least 7 years of experience
- Experienced engineering professional with strong analytical and project management skills
- P. Eng designation (or eligible for membership within 6 months)
- Knowledge of PMI methodologies, PMP certification and/or AACE recommended practices would be an asset
Skills & Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel to project construction sites outside of the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) on a regular basis and stay locally as required to support a project
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of hydropower facilities would be an asset.
- Possess strong analytical, quantitative, and decision-making skills, knowledge of construction means and methods, and be detail oriented.
- Previous experience executing projects in environmentally sensitive areas and/or with the Mi'kmaq of Nova Scotia would be an asset
- Experience in risk management, change management, financial management, and schedule management would be an asset
- You must possess a valid driver?s license and be available to provide assistance for emergency service restoration
