What is the opportunity?

This role offers the chance to play a pivotal role in managing insurance litigation and access requests within the Life & Health claims department. You will be responsible for administering all related functions, including the payment and reconciliation of legal bills under the Alternative Billing program. Additionally, you will act as a key liaison with Outside Counsel to ensure compliance with document requirements for insurance litigation and produce essential reports to monitor ongoing litigation functions. This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented and adept at managing complex processes in a dynamic legal and claims environment.

What will you do?

  • Support the administration of all functions related to the Life and Health Claims access request to personal information

  • Compile information and coordinate the collection of all relevant documentation required for litigation support from a variety of sources, which includes multiple claim systems, paper and imaged claim files and supporting documents from Underwriting, Sales, Policy Admin, Client Services, Billing etc. and provide copies to various internal staff and outside counsel

  • Responsible for opening all new legal claims in the Legal system and the various claim systems, which includes verifying claim information, assigning Outside Counsel and internal staff according to pre-defined procedures, setting up tasks required for future actions within the established turnaround service standards, which are based on the various Provincial legal requirements

  • Maintain and update data on the Legal system and the various claim system through the legal process

  • Liaise with RBC Law and legal firms as necessary ensuring any follow-up correspondence is provided in a timely manner, billing is accurate and all requests are handled

  • Archiving: addition of archive files to electronic tracking system and internal Law Group tracking systems within 3 months of litigation file close date.

  • Maintaining data for the Alternative Billing arrangement for external legal spent, produce and reconcile billing with External Counsel, produce bills, approve payment within approval limits and ensure all systems record accurate billing and payment information

  • Prepare and coordinate final legal settlements by ensuring Legal and claim systems are updated, request for the production of claim settlement cheques, arrange for any policy status changes and request all closing documents, as required

Must-have

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including internal stakeholders and external counsel

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, coupled with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated capability to work with minimal supervision, taking initiative and ownership of tasks while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency

  • Experience communicating effectively across all levels of the organization, from frontline staff to senior leadership, ensuring alignment and collaboration

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in resolving complex issues and making informed decisions

  • Working knowledge of legal and claims terminology, processes, and procedures, particularly in insurance litigation and claims management

  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in various software tools and specialized claim and litigation management systems

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$46,000.00 - $70,000.00
