Head of Product and Portfolio

What is the opportunity?

The RBCx Portfolio Team is responsible for building and scaling a repeatable model for launching and growing strategically important businesses. You'll drive value creation and execution across every stage of a portfolio company's lifecycle, from product-market fit to growth to operational scale.

The team comprises three specialized functions: Growth Product, Platform Product, and Program Management. These horizontal teams deeply embed with General Managers and cross-functional teams to help portfolio companies scale faster, build smarter, and deliver innovation and client value back to RBC.

Our portfolio companies are technology companies that have either been acquired or built-in house at RBCx. They aim to create pathways by driving new customers & revenue to RBC through their products and services. The portfolio companies are focused on turning bold ideas into profitable, scalable companies that deliver long-term enterprise value to RBC.

We're seeking a visionary and execution-driven Head of Product and Portfolio to lead the team through its next stage of growth. The ideal candidate is a passionate leader with a deep understanding and track record of scaling early to growth stage technology companies and can align business strategy with exceptional customer experience. This role requires an experienced professional that knows how to being the appropriate strategic and execution guidance to the teams to enable them to effectively drive customer acquisition, engagement and retention.

What will you do?

• Lead the RBCx portfolio companies, maximizing value and ensuring alignment with strategic and growth objectives
• Drive portfolio company profitability by monitoring performance, working with General Manager's to implement corrective actions, and collaborating across RBCx teams to meet financial and operational targets and drive synergies
• Ensure operational excellence across portfolio companies, providing resources, expertise, and support needed across product, operations, finance, and strategy
• Report insights and recommendations to senior leadership, identifying market trends and opportunities for adjustments to RBCx strategy
• Partner with other teams to help Integrate new portfolio companies into RBCx, as required
• Collaborate with VP, Strategy & Investments to shape coherent portfolio strategy and align portfolio company specific strategies with broader RBCx strategic objectives
• Partner with VP Operations, Strategy & Initiatives to ensure portfolio companies are supported across key areas including Operations, Finance, Risk Management, and People Experience
• Align with Head of Platform regarding deployment of horizontal capabilities into portfolio companies, including Marketing, Product, and (Digital) Design
• Support deployment of portfolio company capabilities within other RBC lines of business, aligning with relevant Senior Leaders

Key Capabilities

• Proven track record of managing P&L
• Expertise in product development at a technology company and/or portfolio management at a technology investment firm
• Experience scaling technology companies
• Strong leadership in driving innovation and fostering an entrepreneurial culture
• Cross-functional collaboration, with a demonstrated ability to drive synergies
• Strong technical acumen, comfortable with leading in a product or data-led environment.
• Demonstrated success in building and scaling cross-functional teams and able to engage credibly with product, engineering, and design teams.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive experience in product, operations, or strategy, preferably in a startup environment or company.
• Proven track record of scaling technology companies through experimentation and data-informed decisioning.
• Experience defining customer segmentation, acquisition, and retention models.
• Background in financial services or regulatory environments is an asset
