Protection and Control Technician

As part of the Relay and Telecommunications team, the Protection and Control Technician is responsible for pre-commissioning, commissioning, modifying, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining NB Power's system relaying protection network used in the generation, transmission, and control of electrical power within the province and to interconnecting utilities.
Key functions include:
- Commission, maintain, test, and calibrate system relaying equipment
- Maintain up-to-date system relay engineering drawings and provide input and information necessary to ensure records and materials are kept up to date
- Assess the impact of field work on the power system and coordinate with other work groups to facilitate energizing protection equipment
The ideal teammate will have:
- Two-year Electrical / Electronic Engineering Technology Diploma (or on track to graduate in June 2026)
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
Conditions of continued employment include:
- The successful candidate must complete a two-year training program in Fredericton, NB, after which their work location will be Moncton, NB
- The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Drivers Abstract and provide the results to NB Power
- Due to security requirements of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, the successful candidate will be required to arrange a Criminal Record name check through the RCMP or their local municipal police service and provide the results to NB Power
Please note that qualified applicants will be required to complete a written technical assessment prior to in-person interviews. A minimum score of 50% is required to advance to the interview stage.
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
