JOB SUMMARY:
Our Data and Visualization team is looking GIS student who's eager to apply and grow their skills in a real-world municipal environment with the City of Moncton's GeoInformatics team. In this job, you will work hands-on with GIS data, produce clear, professional maps for operational and planning needs, and help support and enhance web mapping applications used across the organization. Using the Esri suite of solutions—particularly ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online—you'll assist with building and maintaining web maps and contributing to practical geospatial solutions that support day-to-day municipal service delivery and decision-making.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Edit, update, and maintain GIS datasets?to support City of Moncton operational and planning workflows, including routine data cleanup and attribution updates.
- Perform data quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)?by validating geometry and attributes.
- Produce clear, professional cartographic products?(print and digital) that meet municipal standards and are suitable for internal operational use and planning/analysis.
- Build and maintain web maps and map services?using the Esri suite, with a primary focus on?ArcGIS Pro?and?ArcGIS Online.
- Support, enhance, and troubleshoot web mapping applications?used across the organization, helping ensure usability, performance, and reliable access to current data.
- Contribute to practical geospatial solutions for municipal service delivery?by assisting with day-to-day requests, improving map-based workflows, and supporting data-driven decision-making across departments.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency.
- Post-secondary diploma or bachelor's degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Urban/Regional Planning, or a closely related field with substantial GIS coursework.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong working knowledge of GIS concepts and ESRI-based tools/workflows (e.g., ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) used to assemble, edit, analyze, store, display, and disseminate spatial data and related attribute.
- Strong knowledge of GIS principles, common spatial analysis methods, and cartographic design (symbology, layout, scale, readability, accessibility considerations) for producing clear internal and public-facing map products.
- Working knowledge of data quality practices (QA/QC), dataset documentation, and metadata expectations in a municipal environment.
- Proficiency using Microsoft 365 (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) for documentation, reporting, and collaboration.
- Working knowledge of geodatabase concepts (e.g., schema basics, domains/subtypes, relationship classes; enterprise geodatabase exposure as applicable).
- Demonstrated?attention to detail?and commitment to data quality, including validation practices appropriate to municipal operational and reporting needs.
