Insurance Technology Platform Engineer

Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Support for critical applications and infrastructure across diverse platforms, including Mainframe, Linux, Windows, and Cloud (On-Prem/Public) environments. This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and innovation of RBC Insurance's IT ecosystem, requiring collaboration with internal stakeholders, third-party providers and cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions aligned with stakeholder needs.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Technical Support:

• Manage systems across Linux, Windows, Cloud (Azure/AWS), Mainframe, and SaaS platforms
• Ensure environment stability in pre-production and production phases
• Troubleshoot issues

Environment Management: Configurations, Security, Maintenance, and Deployments for technologies including:

• Databases: SQL, DB2, Snowflake
• Application Servers & Middleware: WebSphere Application Server (WAS), Internet Information Services (IIS)
• Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Data Storage, Streaming & Job Automation: S3, Kafka, Stonebranch, Airflow, IBM Message Queue Management (MQM)
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platforms: Sage Maker (and similar AI/ML platforms)
• Storage Area Network (SAN): SAN (Storage Infrastructure)

Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate with relevant stakeholders on new initiatives and system support, fostering alignment between IT and Business objectives.

IT Planning & Execution: Develop detailed plans and estimates for system installations, upgrades, and configurations, adhering to established standards.

Disaster Recovery: Participate in disaster testing and recovery activities to ensure business continuity.

On-Call Support: Provide after-hours support

Agile Adoption: Embrace Agile methodologies to drive iterative improvements and adaptability.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must-Have:

• Experience: 5+ years in IT Role (DevOPs, Infrastructure, Networking).
• Good working knowledge in areas of:
  • Scripting: Python, PowerShell, JSON, XML.
  • Platforms: Windows Server, Linux, Cloud (Azure/AWS).
  • Middleware/Databases: WAS, IIS, SQL, DB2.
  • Deployment Tools: GitHub, Helios, UCD
  • Data Storage, Streaming and Orchestration: SAN, S3, Kafka, Stonebranch, Airflow, IBM MQM
  • Networking/Security: IP, LDAP, Active Directory, Security (Oauth, OIDC, SAML, Kerberos, NTLM, SSPI, 2-way SSL, Certificate, etc.)
• Adaptable to emerging technologies.
• Ability to adopt Agile Methodologies (Kanban, Scrum) and Tools i.e. Jira, Confluence

Soft Skills:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a Team, Cross-functionally; while managing individual tasks, priorities and accountabilities

Nice-to-Have:

• Knowledge of Insurance Industry.
• Education: University/College degree in Information Technology or equivalent.
• Experience with Microsoft applications and Information Security standards.
• Knowledge of application development and data governance.
• Knowledge of ITIL standards and best practices.
