Laboratory Supervisor

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking an individual for the position of Lab Supervisor. Reporting to the Technical Manager, this position is responsible for the efficient, safe and reliable management of the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a relevant post-secondary degree and supervision experience in a fast-paced industrial or laboratory environment.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee lab operation and workflow; ensure standardized protocols and replicable results
• Maintain laboratory equipment including calibrations, repairs, preparation of standards, etc.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory testing
• Compile records and interpret experimental or analytical results
• Ensure lab safety standards and housekeeping requirements are met
• Analyze laboratory and process data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
• Conduct microscopic analyses
• Design and recommend fit-for-purpose experiments and testing
• Lead small improvement projects that drive cost effective operation
• Oversee training of Quality & Environmental Technicians on testing procedures, equipment use, and safety practices.

• Demonstrated ability to document and streamline practices and procedures
• Ability to lead with a safety-focused mindset
• Strong communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong proficiency in MS Office
• Previous experience with PI Processbook considered an asset
• Certification as a Class II (or higher) Water Treatment Operator considered an asset
