Cost Control Specialist

We are seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented professional with strong financial and technical skills to join Project Services within Non-Regulated Engineering Services; thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and manages competing priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and provide financial insights and decision support to Project Managers and Leadership.
- Develop and implement project cost control and cost management processes and procedures.
- Monitor, analyze, and forecast project costs, budgets, and cash flows; ensure accuracy, identify risks and opportunities, and support effective project delivery.
- Prepare clear, accurate monthly reporting, including JDE outputs and variance analysis, reporting to the Team Lead, Project Services.
- Develop and maintain project cost control procedures; manage the project change log, ensuring scope, cost, and schedule changes are validated and communicated in a timely manner.
- Enhance financial processes, reporting tools, and templates to support continuous improvement and strengthen cost control and forecasting across the Capital Program.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, and Project Management teams to support strong financial governance and overall project success.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience developing and implementing cost control and cost management procedures for large capital projects.
- Strong analytical, forecasting, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Collaborative, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with sound judgment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, with experience in JDE, Spreadsheet Server, Showcase, and Clarity.
- Knowledge of hydroelectric utilities or other capital-intensive industries is an asset.
- Project management knowledge or experience is an asset.
What You'll Need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business (with an accounting designation) or Engineering; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Seven (7) to eight (8) years of experience in financial management and working with financial systems.
- Extensive knowledge leading and performing cost management for large capital programs/projects.
- Experience in project‑based environments; experience in the utility or other capital‑intensive industries is considered an asset.
