Development Manager

Help us raise the money, build the relationships, and tell the stories that make a real difference for kids and families fighting childhood cancer in NL.

LOCATION Metro St. John's (WFH)

HOURS Full-time (Flexible)

SALARY $50,000-$60,000

Are you plugged into this province and fired up to do something that matters? We're Candlelighters NL - and we support kids and families impacted by childhood cancer across Newfoundland and Labrador. We need someone who knows this community, loves this place, and can help us secure the funding and relationships that let us do more for the families who need us. This isn't a desk-and-spreadsheet job. It's relationship-building, storytelling, event-running, community-connecting work - and it genuinely changes lives.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• RAISE MONEY
  • Build and deliver our annual fundraising strategy - campaigns, appeals, grants, events, the lot
  • Find and win new donors, sponsors, and community partners
  • Lead on grants - research, write, and submit applications to funding bodies
  • Keep the Board up to speed on targets and budgets
• BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
  • Develop genuine, lasting relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners
  • Make sure our supporters feel valued - through stewardship, impact reports, and recognition
  • Manage our donor systems and look for ways to do it better
• TELL OUR STORY
  • Own our communications - social media, newsletters, website, media
  • Be our face at community events and with media - warm, credible, and compelling
  • Turn what we do into stories that make people want to help
• RUN GREAT EVENTS
  • Plan and deliver fundraising events and awareness initiatives all year
  • Support family events and programming alongside our Programme Manager
  • Work with sponsors, volunteers, and partners to make things happen
• HELP US GROW
  • Help build the systems, processes, and infrastructure that make us more effective
  • Support our volunteers - recruit, induct, coordinate
  • General admin and support as part of a small, hands-on team

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Honestly, the job title matters less than the person. Here's what we need:

• NL roots You know this province - the communities, the networks, the people.
• A natural connector You build trust easily and people genuinely like working with you.
• A communicator You can write, speak, and tell stories that move people to act.
• A self-starter You can build a plan and execute it without someone watching over your shoulder.
• Event-savvy Planning, chaos, cleanup - you're comfortable with all of it.
• Empathetic You genuinely care about the families we support, and it shows.

Background: Experience in fundraising, sales, communications, nonprofit management - or some combination. Knowledge of NL communities is essential. Familiarity with donor systems like Canada Helps or Trellis is a bonus. We also value: creativity, compassion, the ability to work closely with colleagues and volunteers, and comfort in a small, busy organisation.
