The Financial and Consumer Services Commission (Commission) is a leader in integrated financial and consumer services regulation. The Commission's mandate is to protect consumers and enhance public confidence in the financial and consumer marketplace through the provision of regulatory and educational services. With offices in both Fredericton and Saint John, it is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial legislation regulating mortgage brokers, payday lenders, real estate, securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, trust and loan companies, cooperatives, unclaimed property, and a wide range of consumer legislation. The Commission is a self funded Crown corporation responsible for the administration and enforcement of financial consumer services legislation.

Accounting Officer - Finance and Facilities Division (Saint John or Fredericton)

We are seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional to serve as an Accounting Officer in the Finance and Facilities division. The role supports the Controller with a focus on expense processing.

The ideal candidate is organized, able to manage competing deadlines, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Your Focus

Accounting

  • Perform daily accounting functions with an emphasis on accounts payable.
  • Review, code, enter, and monitor invoices, payments, travel claims, and Mastercard statements.
  • Monitor accounts to ensure vendor payments are up to date and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Reconcile Unclaimed Property transactions.
  • Assist with month-end, reporting, audits, and financial system data entry.

Back-Up to Other Positions

  • Set-up sales invoices and monitor accounts receivables.
  • Record daily cash receipts and reconcile to bank deposits.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements.

What you bring

  • Completion of a Community College diploma or equivalent experience in accounting procedures
  • 1-3 years related experience with a knowledge of general accounting procedures, accounts payable; accounting systems, payroll, legislative requirements practices, insured benefit and pension administration
  • Accounting or bookkeeping skills, payroll administration practices, microcomputer applications and software including accounting systems, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in data entry
  • Good organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Teamwork and communications skills

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in Business Central would be an asset
