The Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) is dedicated to supporting Indigenous peoples in reaching their full economic development potential through advocacy and networking.
The Technology and Equipment Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for the technical setup, maintenance, and operational readiness of the Mobile Makerspace program. This role ensures that all fabrication equipment, digital tools, and technology systems are properly configured, maintained, and ready for program delivery across Indigenous communities in New Brunswick. The position plays a key role in configuring the Mobile Makerspace trailer for safe and efficient equipment use, maintaining accurate inventory and asset tracking systems, and developing operational manuals and technical guides for staff and participants. The role also supports the lifecycle management of technology equipment and ensures safety protocols and operational standards are consistently followed.
Key Responsibilities
- Mobile Makerspace Technical Setup
- Design and optimize the layout and technical setup of the Mobile Makerspace trailer to support safe and efficient program delivery
- Configure workstations, equipment placement, and workflow within the mobile unit
- Ensure power requirements, ventilation, safety considerations, and operational workflows are properly implemented
- Support setup, breakdown, and transportation readiness of equipment during community visits and programming events
- Equipment Management & Asset Inventory
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all Mobile Makerspace equipment, tools, materials, and technology assets
- Implement and manage an asset tracking system for equipment use, location, and condition
- Track equipment usage, maintenance schedules, warranties, and replacements
- Coordinate procurement, repair, and servicing of equipment and supplies as required
- Ensure equipment is safely stored, transported, and secured during transportation.
- Equipment Maintenance & Technology Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of fabrication equipment including 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, and electronics tools.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and perform basic repairs when possible.
- Coordinate external servicing and vendor support for specialized equipment when required.
- Monitor equipment performance and support lifecycle planning for upgrades, replacement, and expansion of technology resources.
- Technical Documentation & Operational Manuals
- Develop and maintain equipment manuals, setup guides, and operational procedures for all Mobile Makerspace technology and tools.
- Create clear step-by-step instructional resources for staff and facilitators.
- Maintain documentation for equipment workflows, safety procedures, and best practices.
- Support the development of standard operating procedures for the Mobile Makerspace unit.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe operation of all equipment and adherence to established safety protocols.
- Maintain safety documentation, guidelines, and training resources for staff and participants.
- Support risk management practices related to fabrication equipment and mobile program delivery.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and operational standards.
- Technical Instruction & Staff Support
- Provide technical training and guidance to facilitators and staff on equipment use and safety.
- Support instructional delivery during workshops where advanced technical knowledge is required.
- Assist with the integration of new technologies into program delivery and curriculum.
Qualifications
- Relevant University degree and/or technical certifications. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Experience with digital fabrication tools, makerspaces, or technical equipment management.
- Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
- Experience providing training and support on proper use and care of equipment.
- Proficiency in documenting technical procedures and developing operational guides.
- Experience managing equipment inventory or asset tracking systems.
- Familiarity with tools such as: 3D printers, laser engravers or cutters, vinyl cutters and heat press equipment, electronics and soldering tools, CAD or design software (Fusion 360, Inkscape, etc.) is a definite asset.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel within New Brunswick.
- Satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance and maintenance are required.
Salary range: $58,349 - $71,315 per annum
