The Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) is dedicated to supporting Indigenous peoples in reaching their full economic development potential through advocacy and networking.

The Mobile Makerspace Facilitators support the delivery of hands-on STEAM programming for Indigenous youth and communities across New Brunswick. This role focuses on facilitating workshops, supporting learners, and assisting with the delivery of culturally grounded technology programming through the Mobile Makerspace. Working as part of the Mobile Makerspace team, the Facilitators will deliver engaging learning experiences in areas such as digital fabrication, design, electronics, and emerging technologies while supporting a positive, culturally safe learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Facilitate Mobile Makerspace workshops in schools, communities, and partner locations
  • Support hands-on learning activities including 3D printing, laser engraving, electronics, coding, and digital design
  • Assist learners in developing problem-solving and creative technology skills
  • Help integrate Indigenous knowledge, culture, and community context into programming

Participant Support

  • Provide guidance and encouragement to youth participants
  • Support learners with varying skill levels and learning styles
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment

Program Preparation

  • Assist with preparing materials, equipment, and learning spaces for workshops
  • Support setup and teardown of the Mobile Makerspace unit and equipment
  • Maintain organization of supplies and material

Community Engagement

  • Support outreach and programming in Indigenous communities and partner schools
  • Assist with events, demonstrations, and community engagement activities

Program Support

  • Assist with collecting participant feedback and documenting program activities
  • Support program evaluation and improvement efforts

Qualifications

  • University degree in a related field such as Education and/or Science, Mathematics, Design or other applicable field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with youth or facilitating workshops in hands-on learning environments
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Interest in STEAM education, technology, or digital fabrication
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team environments
  • Experience with tools such as: 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters or heat press, basic electronics or coding is a definite asset.
  • Willingness to travel within New Brunswick
  • Satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance and maintenance are required.

Salary range: $51,458 - $62,893 per annum
