Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Overall, the Director of Real Estate Strategy plays a critical role in Commercial Banking's success as they focus on developing strategies (product, pricing, policy, and people) to serve unique sector-specific client needs.

You are responsible for leveraging the sector management strategy and combining it with competitive intel and input from partners in the field to formulate clear tactics designed to deliver improved financial performance, client satisfaction, market share growth and competitive advantage across the real estate asset classes including developers of residential and commercial real estate; owners of multi-family residential, industrial, retail and office; as well as hotel, self-storage, student housing and seniors housing.

You are also responsible for impacting the enablement of our real estate advisors, complementing established resources to help achieve the desired financial performance, market share, client experience goals and protection of RBC's competitive advantage.

This job requires expert knowledge of the commercial lending market and competitor practices.

What will you do?

Strategic Initiatives

  • A key agent for change, you must establish and maintain collaborative connectivity across Commercial Banking, risk partners, and other key stakeholders across the broader Enterprise.

  • Identify new innovative ways to understand our client's needs and help support client and advisor challenges and improve the delivery of our strategy through our products and services.

  • Add new complimentary dimensions (e.g. strategic partnerships) to enhance competitiveness

  • Deliver client insights for unique product needs to Product teams by segment and/or industry sub-segment based on impact to relevant benefits as outlined by the strategy.

  • Act as a conduit for innovation and feedback with respect to what's working, areas of opportunity and assessment of tactical implementation related to developed sector strategy

Enablement

  • Deep analytical understanding of the risk drivers for real estate lending

  • Provide thought leadership on market fundamentals and competitor insights, products and services

  • Develop training and learning materials and delivery mechanism for the sector, leveraging existing resources and forward thinking the needs of underwriting, origination and advisors.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • University degree in business, economics or equivalent

  • Expert knowledge of the real estate industry and real estate credit structure

  • Credit experience and understanding of RBC business suite of products

  • Strong network of relationships with key RBC influencers and stakeholders

  • Strong analytical and relationship development skills

Nice-to-have

  • MBA

  • Extensive knowledge in risk management
