The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking individuals to join the Aquaculture and Extension Services Branch, as Compliance Officers, located in Bouctouche.
Reporting to the Registrar in the Leasing, Licensing and Compliance Unit, responsibilities will include: performing unannounced inspections at inland and marine aquaculture sites, wharves and seafood processing facilities to verify compliance and good standing with the Aquaculture Act and the Seafood Processing Act and Regulations and authorization terms and conditions as well as investigating complaints and non-compliance issues generated by stakeholders, the public and government staff; questioning complainants, interpreting Acts and Regulations to ascertain if the complaint is valid, collecting physical evidence, making seizures, taking photographs, taking verbal and written statements from owners, managers and workers; preparing relevant court documents, testifying in court, serving summons; liaising with the Enforcement Manager at Justice and Public Safety; working closely with Leasing and Licensing Coordinators; assisting fish health and development staff with field duties; and delivering official letters/orders to stakeholders who are in non-compliance. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by successful completion of a recognized policing or conservation enforcement program; and a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that possess one or more of the following: experience working in a team environment; small craft operator experience, geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping software experience. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications to be given further consideration.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: travel within the province as required including occasional overnight stays; work outside of the normal work hours as required; possess a valid Class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick; operate marine crafts, small marine vessels, drones and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs); work in all weather conditions and on all types of terrain; and work alone in accordance with the department's Working Alone Policy. Successful completion of the following will be required within one (1) year of commencement to the position: Marine Emergencies Duties Course A1; a certified Recreational Boating Course; and a certified Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Course (SVOP).

SALARY: $53,118 to $64,506 per annum
