FACILITY SUPERVISOR – FLUME TANK (RTP V)

The Marine Institute's Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resources (CSAR) operates the world's largest flume tank (22 metres), dedicated to hydrodynamic testing for the harvesting and ocean technology sectors. The facility holds 1.7 million litres of water and is the marine equivalent of a wind tunnel. The facility contains a variety of equipment, including axial as well as centrifugal pumps, electric motors, hydraulics, DE water filtration system, PLC's, data acquisition systems, underwater cameras, a 2700psi hydrostatic pressure chamber, and workshop.

DUTIES

The successful applicant will oversee the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems related to the Marine Institute flume tank. Duties include troubleshooting and repairing non-functioning equipment as well as developing and overseeing future improvements. Onsite equipment includes various pumps, motors, drives, filters, PLCs, and underwater cameras. The individual will also assist with client activity, help develop proposals and secure funding for project activity, including at-sea trials on vessels; and performing other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (3-5 years) in a research facility, aquarium, or aquatics facility/pool; hold at minimum a 3-year diploma of mechanical engineering technology; an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The successful applicant must also be willing to travel and participate in at-sea research. Preference will be given to individuals with knowledge and experience working in a client-centred environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of data acquisition systems/software and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are preferred.

SALARY: $66,626 to $86,520 per annum (Research and Technical Personnel V, NAPE Local 7405)
