We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Business Development Advisor to help expand NB Power's presence in transmission, generation, and export markets. This role identifies, evaluates, and advances strategic opportunities that create value for ratepayers, supports decarbonization efforts, and government agencies.
Key functions include:
Business Development and Strategy
• Identify and assess new business opportunities across generation, transmission, distribution, and export markets.
• Develop business cases, proposals, and recommendations aligned with NB Power's strategic and provincial energy objectives.
Commercial and Contract Development
• Lead and support the development, negotiation, and execution of commercial agreements with utilities, developers, and strategic partners.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure commercial structures are technically sound and financially sustainable.
Market Intelligence and Analysis
• Conduct research and analysis on electricity markets, regional trends, renewable energy opportunities, and interconnection potential.
• Prepare market assessments, jurisdictional scans, and economic evaluations to support decision-making.
Stakeholder and Partner Engagement
• Build and maintain productive relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, industry partners, First Nations communities, and utilities in Eastern Canada and the New England states.
• Represent NB Power in external discussions, working groups, and partnership development activities.
Project Leadership
• Lead or support project planning and execution activities to ensure timely delivery of business development initiatives.
• Prepare briefings, presentations, and reports for executive leadership.
Our ideal teammate will have:
• Bachelors degree in Engineering.
• A master's degree (Engineering/MBA) would be considered an asset .
• Seven years of experience in generation and/or transmission in the utility sector:
o Experience negotiating complex commercial contracts and working collaboratively with legal and operational teams.
o Technical knowledge of electric power generation and/or transmission systems, gained through direct operations, field, engineering, or maintenance experience.
• Three years of demonstrated leadership experience, including:
o Supervising teams or work groups.
o Motivating employees and fostering collaboration.
o Communicating with clarity and leading change.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
