Job Description
What is the opportunity?
The Director is responsible for overseeing the bank's balance sheet risk management framework, including interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB&MR) across different business lines and regions where RBC operates.
Provides risk management oversight and guidance to the different business lines through an independent and effective monitoring, controlling, and communicating of all material market risk positions- including developments, trends and concentrations; and ensures implementation of and compliance with risk management policies.
The Director will Partner closely with Treasury, non-trading portfolios, Finance, and business units to ensure robust risk identification, measurement, monitoring, and reporting processes related to asset-liability management.
What will you do?
- Develop and strengthen market risk practices and key oversight programs within ALM non-trading businesses, conduct reasonability reviews of risk assessments
- Provide senior management with forward-looking analysis on potential market developments, risk concentrations, and emerging trends that could result in significant financial losses under adverse conditions.
- Present aggregated balance sheet risk metrics across all regions and business lines.
- Perform gap analysis to identify remediation plans for adherence to internal policies and compliance with local and international regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular reviews of the Risk Appetite and Risk Limits frameworks to ensure risks are appropriately managed and tolerances are calibrated at the enterprise and key business line levels.
- Act as a key business partner to first- and second-line functions.
- Assess the impact of macroeconomic scenarios on earnings and capital
- Enhance risk analytics and reporting dashboards for senior management and Board visibility.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Deep expertise and of bank of trading non-trading businesses' balance sheet composition.
- Deep understanding of trading and non-trading market risks as well as of the financial markets, trading businesses, exchange traded and over the counter markets.
- Prior experience in risk management or financial areas and strong understanding of RBC risk practices.
- MBA, MS or equivalent, with emphasis in finance, economics or a quantitative discipline.
- CFA, CA or other related professional qualifications.
- Thorough knowledge of traded products including derivatives and their associated risks.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Excel, familiarity with SQL and database programs, and programming languages such as Python and Visual Basic.
- Excellent communication, business writing skills, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, program delivery, project execution the ability to disrupt and challenge the status quo.
- Strategic mindset and ability to synthesize information to frame messages effectively for senior leadership, as well as strong people leadership.
Nice-to-have
- MBA, MA or MS or equivalent with emphasis in finance, economics or a quantitative discipline (CFA, FRM or other related professional qualifications).
- Deep understanding of the bank's balance sheet composition and business lines.
